History of the Mojang cape

Mojang redesigned its staff cape in October 2015. On October 6, jeb_ shared the art for the first elytra together with the new Mojang cape, and minecraft.wiki dates the switch to October 7. From then on, new employees got this version instead of the Mojang (Classic) cape.

The company renamed itself Mojang Studios in May 2020 and introduced a new logo made of small characters it calls the Mojangs, as explained in Meet Mojang Studios. The cape kept the old branding for another year. On July 25, 2021 the Mojang Studios cape replaced it, so this one stopped going to new staff.

Mojang cape FAQ

How do you get the Mojang cape?

Only by working at Mojang between October 2015 and July 2021. This was the company's staff cape for that stretch, so it was never offered to players through codes, events or purchases. Anyone who joined after July 25, 2021 got the Mojang Studios cape instead.

Can you still get the Mojang cape?

No. Mojang swapped it for the Mojang Studios cape on July 25, 2021, after the company's rename and new logo. Employees who had the older Mojang cape still show it, but no new accounts receive it.
