Where to get all Armor Trims in Minecraft 1.20
Armor Trims are a new feature in 1.20 which allows you to customize your armor. We will show you how to use them, where to find them, and how to craft them.
As covered in our previous article, armor trims are the hot new feature in Minecraft 1.20, the Tales & Trails update. However, many people don't know how to use them.
How to apply Armor Trims
To put a trim on your armor, you will need a smithing table. You will need to put 3 things on the smithing table: the armor item you want to decorate, a smithing template containing the type of armor trim you want, and a mineral (i.e. ingots and crystals).
Where to find Smithing Templates
So, what is a smithing template and how do you get one? They need to be found by exploring the naturally generated structures in your Minecraft worlds. Most are found in chests, but some are found by archeology by using a brush on a suspicious gravel. Different templates yield different patterns on your armor. Bellow is a list where to obtain each one in survival mode.
- Coast: Shipwrecks - 11.1% per chest
- Dune: Desert temples - 11.1% per chest
- Eye: Strongholds - 9.1% per chest
- Host: Trail ruins - 8.3% per suspicious gravel
- Raiser: Trail ruins - 8.3% per suspicious gravel
- Rib: Nether fortress - 4.8% per chest
- Sentry: Pillager outpost - 20% per chest
- Sharper: Trail ruins - 8.3% per suspicious gravel
- Silence: Ancient city - 1.2% per chest
- Snout: Bastion remnant - 4.8% per chest
- Spire: End city - 4.8% per chest
- Tide: Elder guardians - 20% every time one is killed
- Vex: Woodland mansion - 4.8% per chest
- Ward: Ancient city - 4.8% per chest
- Wayfinder: Trail ruins - 8.3% per suspicious gravel
- Wild: Jungle temple - 20% per chest
How to duplicate Smithing Templates
However, don't rush to apply the armor trims yet! They are consumed upon use, but you can duplicate the templates through crafting so you do not need to search for another one. To craft one, all you need is 7 diamonds, the armor trim template, and a block of its material. The material needed for each trim is listed below.
- Coast: Cobblestone
- Dune: Sandstone
- Eye: End stone
- Rib: Netherrack
- Host: Terracotta
- Raiser: Terracotta
- Sentry: Cobblestone
- Sharper: Terracotta
- Silence: Cobbled deepslate
- Snout: Blackstone
- Spire: Purpur block
- Tide: Prismarine
- Vex: Cobblestone
- Ward: Cobbled deepslate
- Wayfinder: Terracotta
- Wild: Mossy cobblestone
Netherite Upgrade Smithing Templates
One more thing: since the smithing table changed, you now need a netherite upgrade template to upgrade your diamond armor into netherite. These can be found in bastion remnants and require a netherrack to duplicate.
I hope you've learned all about the new armor trims, and enjoy them all throughout your Minecraft gameplay!
