Most "best server" lists recycle the same ten names every year, whether or not anyone still plays on them. We started from the numbers. Crafty pings every server on its server list around the clock, so the player counts below are our own measurements, not figures from the servers' websites. Inside each category the ranking is opinionated. Player count decides who makes the list, and how the server actually plays decides the order.
The short list
Each figure is the server's average across every ping in the seven days to 29 September 2026. Live counts on the biggest networks swing by thousands over a day, so an average is the fairer comparison. Every server's Crafty page shows the live count and a 24-hour history.
Survival and SMP
DonutSMP is one of the two most-played servers on Crafty's list, averaging 25,930 players over the last week on a lifesteal survival world. That's more than Hypixel. It's one big world with no hub. You get an economy, factions-style raiding, and a hearts-on-kill rule that makes every fight count. If you want vanilla-ish survival with thousands of other people in the same world, this is where they are.
Mineberry is the pick if you play with friends on Bedrock. It runs cross-play on 1.21 with towny, economy and a pixelmon mode, and averaged about 2,500 players last week, up 19% on the week before. It's smaller than DonutSMP and a lot less cut-throat.
For a quieter SMP, check the SMP tag on the server list. It's sorted by players online and refreshes constantly. Most of the best small servers cap at a hundred slots, so they never make it into a "best of" article.
Minigames
Hypixel needs no introduction, and the numbers back it up. More than 22,000 players on average, over a decade after launch, spread across Bed Wars, Skyblock, Skywars and dozens of smaller games. It supports 1.8.9 clients for PvP and current versions for everything else, which is why it's still the default answer to "what server should I join".
CubeCraft is the Hypixel alternative for Bedrock players. It runs the same games on both editions and averages close to 800 players on the Java side. PikaNetwork matters for another reason. It allows cracked clients, so players without a paid account end up there, and it still averages over 1,800 people in its minigame lobbies.
PvP practice
Minemen Club is the serious one. It's a practice server built around 1.8.9 combat, with ranked queues and a competitive scene. An average of 2,572 players is a lot for a server with no survival mode at all. CatPvP is newer and much smaller, with fast queues and support for modern versions. It averaged 140 players last week, down 44% on the week before, so check its live count before you settle on it. Hoplite covers battle royale with its own maps and modes on 1.20+.
Picking between Minemen and CatPvP comes down to version. Play 1.8 and want ranked? Minemen. Play 1.16+ and want short queues on a small server? CatPvP.
MMO and adventure
Wynncraft is the only entry here that plays like a different game. It's a full MMORPG with classes, quests and a hand-built map, running on a modified 1.16 base. It averages around 1,350 players and has uptime above 99% in Crafty's history. Nothing else on this list compares. If you want an RPG, play Wynncraft.
Modded
Complex Gaming runs Pixelmon, the Pokémon mod, on a public server. Beyond installing Pixelmon, you don't have to set up a modpack yourself. Expect around 1,650 players at a time. It has been running longer than any of the other big pixelmon servers.
Anarchy
2b2t is the oldest anarchy server still running. No rules, and no map reset since December 2010. The 1,177 average counts players in the world. The queue to get in, which reaches hundreds at peak, comes on top of that. It's a rough place for new players, but no other Minecraft server has that kind of history.
The most popular Minecraft servers right now
The picks above are sorted by what you want to play. If you just want the biggest servers, this table ranks the largest servers on Crafty's list by average players over the seven days to 29 September 2026, with the change from the week before. Servers listed twice under different addresses are counted once.
The top three are within 4,000 players of each other, and all three fell about 5% in the same week, which looks like a dip across the whole game, not trouble at any one server. Anarchia, a Polish-language survival server, is bigger than every minigame network except Hypixel. The biggest movers are further down. MCHub gained 80% in a week, while Rapy lost more than half its players.
GridSMP's numbers are unusual. Its live count and both weekly averages sit within 1% of DonutSMP's. Two unrelated servers rarely track each other that closely, and we haven't been able to confirm GridSMP's count independently, so take its first place with some caution.
Across all 1,153 servers on the list, 794 were online when we took these numbers, with 205,916 players between them. The busiest hour over the last week was 18:00 UTC, averaging about 287,000 players, and the quietest was 07:00 UTC at about 141,000. If you want a full lobby, play in the European evening. Skip these
Most lists overrate two kinds of server.
- Servers ranked by votes instead of players. Vote-ranked lists are pay-to-win for the servers. A server with 40 people online and 30,000 votes bought its position.
- "Top server" networks that are actually dead. Several networks that were huge from 2018 to 2020 now sit under 200 players. Check the live count on a server's Crafty page before you install a resource pack for it.

What is the most popular Minecraft server in 2026?
On Crafty's list, DonutSMP and Hypixel are the two biggest servers you can verify, averaging 25,930 and 22,367 players over the last week. GridSMP reports slightly more, but its numbers track DonutSMP's too closely to take at face value. Hypixel is the biggest minigame network, DonutSMP the biggest single survival world, and the next server down is Anarchia at about 16,800.
Is Hypixel dying?
No. Hypixel averaged 22,367 players over the week to 29 September 2026, the third-highest of any server we track. That's 5.1% down on the week before, but DonutSMP and GridSMP fell by almost exactly the same amount over the same week, so it was a dip across the whole game. Hypixel's page on Crafty shows the live count and weekly trend.
Which Minecraft servers work on Bedrock?
CubeCraft and Mineberry are the main cross-play picks here, and the server list shows Bedrock support and the Bedrock port on each server page. Most of the Java-only servers on this list don't accept Bedrock clients. Some add Geyser cross-play later, so check the page before you assume.
Are there good cracked Minecraft servers?
PikaNetwork is the largest server that accepts unauthenticated clients, with over 3,000 players online, and several smaller networks do the same. Keep in mind that a cracked server can't verify who you are, so the only thing protecting your account there is the server's own password plugin.
