Trim materials
The 10 materials any pattern can be dyed with

Any of the 18 patterns can be applied with any of these 10 materials, so there are 180 possible trims per armour piece. The material only changes the colour — it has no effect on protection.

Applying, duplicating and removing trims
How many armor trims are there in Minecraft? +
There are 18 armor trim patterns in Minecraft 26.2, each from its own smithing template. Combined with the 10 trim materials, that gives 180 possible looks per armour piece.
How do you apply an armor trim? +
At a smithing table, place the smithing template in the first slot, the armour piece in the second, and the trim material in the third. The trim is cosmetic only — it changes nothing about the armour's protection or durability.
Can you duplicate a smithing template? +
Yes. Put the template in a crafting grid with seven of the block its structure is made from plus one diamond, and you get the original template back plus a copy. The block differs per template — cobblestone for Sentry, sandstone for Dune, and so on.
Can you remove an armor trim? +
Yes. A crafting table won't do it, but a grindstone will — putting trimmed armour through a grindstone strips the trim. You do not get the template or the material back.
Which structure has the most armor trims? +
Trail Ruins, which holds four templates — Wayfinder, Shaper, Raiser and Host. Ancient City and Trial Chambers each hold two.
Do armor trims do anything besides look different? +
No. Armor trims are purely cosmetic. They add no protection, no durability and no enchantment effect, and they can be applied to any armour material.
