Game ticks, redstone ticks and repeater defaults

What's the difference between game ticks and redstone ticks? +

1 game tick = 0.05 seconds. 1 redstone tick = 2 game ticks = 0.1 seconds. A repeater's default delay is 1 redstone tick.

How many ticks are in a Minecraft day? +

24,000 game ticks per Minecraft day, or 20 minutes of real time.

Why does my redstone repeater have a default 1-tick delay? +

To allow signal regeneration. Each repeater extends signal range by 15 blocks and adds at least 1 redstone tick of delay.
