- Dashed Commands, server files such as whitelist.json and ops.json, and most websites use the dashed form.
- Int array Since 1.16, NBT stores a UUID as four signed 32-bit numbers. Use it in /give, /summon and /data commands.
- Most / least Before 1.16, NBT split the UUID into two signed 64-bit numbers called UUIDMost and UUIDLeast.
- Offline UUID With online-mode off, a server skips Mojang and makes a UUID from the text OfflinePlayer: plus the name. The case of the name matters.
FAQ
UUIDs in Minecraft
What is a Minecraft UUID? +
Every Java account has a UUID, a 128-bit ID that stays the same when the name changes. Servers, plugins and the game itself use it to tell players apart.
Why does my offline server give me a different UUID? +
An offline-mode server can't ask Mojang who you are, so it builds a version 3 UUID from OfflinePlayer: and your name. That UUID changes if your name or its capitalisation changes, which is why inventories go missing after switching modes.
Which format do I need for commands? +
Use the dashed UUID in commands that take a player or entity. Use the int array inside NBT on 1.16 and later, for example a player head's id or an entity's Owner tag.
Is what I type stored? +
UUIDs are converted in your browser. A username is looked up once to find its UUID and nothing is saved.
