/tp @s 0 64 0 How portal linking works
The 8 : 1 scale, the search radii and what Y does
Every block in the Overworld equals 8 blocks of travel in the Nether. So (0, 64, 0) in the Overworld maps to (0, 64, 0) in the Nether — but (800, 64, −200) in the Overworld maps to (100, 64, −25) in the Nether.
When you travel to the Nether, Minecraft scans within 16 blocks of the converted point for an existing portal to reuse. Going back to the Overworld uses a wider 128-block radius. To make two portals link cleanly, build the destination at the calculated coordinates and make sure no other portal sits inside those radii.
Y is preserved (no scaling). The Nether's playable space is 0–127, so cap your Overworld Y if you want to stay inside build limits.

Frequently asked questions
Linking rules, roof travel and portal spacing
What's the 8:1 ratio for Nether portals in Minecraft? +
1 block traveled in the Nether equals 8 blocks in the Overworld. Nether highways are the fastest way to traverse long distances.
Why don't my Nether portals link to the right place? +
Portals link to the closest existing portal in a 16-block (Overworld) or 128-block (Nether) radius before generating a new one.
What coordinates should I light my second portal at? +
Divide your Overworld coordinates by 8 to find the corresponding Nether coordinates, and light the portal there.
