How tellraw works
The text component format the commands are written in
Every message here is a text component. Each segment becomes a compound like {text:"Hi",color:"gold",bold:true}, and several segments are
wrapped in a list that starts with an empty string: ["",{...},{...}].
The later entries in a list are children of the first, so the empty string stops one segment's colour
bleeding into the next.
Since Java 1.21.5 commands take components as SNBT instead of JSON. Keys lose their quotes, events
are snake_case (click_event, hover_event),
and each click action names its own field: url for open_url, command for
run_command and suggest_command, value for copy_to_clipboard.
Colours can be one of the 16 names or any hex like #ff6b6b. Links
need http:// or https:// or the game refuses the whole component, so the generator drops a click
that wouldn't parse and tells you why.

Frequently asked questions
SNBT, titles, click events and length limits
Why does my old tellraw command from a tutorial not work anymore? +
Java 1.21.5 changed text components from JSON to SNBT and renamed the event fields. clickEvent became click_event, hoverEvent became hover_event, and the click value moved into a field named after the action: url for open_url, command for run_command and suggest_command, value for copy_to_clipboard. The show_text hover now keeps its text in value. This generator writes the new format.
What is the difference between /tellraw and /title? +
/tellraw puts a line in chat, where players can click it and hover over it. /title shows text in the middle of the screen (title and subtitle) or just above the hotbar (actionbar). Titles ignore click and hover, so the generator leaves them out of /title commands.
Why doesn't my subtitle show up? +
A subtitle only appears while a title is on screen. Run the /title ... subtitle command first, then the /title ... title command, and both show together.
What do the title times numbers mean? +
/title <target> times <fadeIn> <stay> <fadeOut> sets how long titles take to fade in, stay, and fade out, in game ticks (20 ticks is one second). The defaults are 10, 70 and 20. The setting sticks for that player until you run /title <target> reset.
Why does run_command not work for /say or /msg? +
Clicking runs the command as if the player typed it, with their permissions. Commands that send a chat message, like /say, /tell and /teammsg, are blocked from click events. Use suggest_command to put the text in the chat box instead.
My command is too long to paste in chat. What now? +
Chat accepts 256 characters. Longer commands work fine in a command block, which takes up to 32,500. Give yourself one with /give @s command_block, paste the command in, and power it with a button or redstone.
