History of the Founder's cape

Mojang revealed the Founder's cape at MINECON Live on September 28, 2019, alongside the Character Creator for Bedrock Edition. Mojang called it the first cape for the new system and offered it through a Founder's Cape skin pack that was free on the Marketplace for a limited time.

The pack came off the Marketplace on October 28, 2019. When the Character Creator shipped in Bedrock 1.13.0, everyone who had claimed the pack got the cape as a Character Creator item. The Minecraft Wiki records two bugs afterwards: one in June 2020 that showed it to every player, and one in October 2020 that removed it from all dressing rooms until a later update restored it to real owners.

The cape stayed Bedrock-only for more than five years. On May 8, 2025 it started appearing on Java Edition for players who already owned it on Bedrock, along with the Pan cape. Its creeper face comes from the MineCon 2011 cape, and the game files still call it the Minecon 2019 Cape.
