Geschichte des Migrator-Capes

In October 2020 Mojang announced that Java Edition would require a Microsoft account and that moving off Mojang accounts was mandatory. To sweeten it, the post promised a special cape to everyone who logged in with a Microsoft account, and teased that there might be more than one.

Migration opened to a first batch of accounts on June 24, 2021, and expanded in waves until every remaining account could move on November 24, 2021. The cape itself went live on July 9, 2021 for everyone who had already migrated, according to the Minecraft Wiki.

The offer ended with migration. Mojang's last call set September 19, 2023 as the date unmigrated accounts lost the ability to sign in and move. It was the first cape Mojang gave out at scale without an in-person event, nearly five years after the MineCon 2016 cape.

FAQ zum Migrator-Cape

How do you get the Migrator cape?

You had to own Java Edition on an old Mojang or legacy account, bought before December 1, 2020, and move it to a Microsoft account. Players who had already migrated got the cape on July 9, 2021, and later migrators received it as soon as they finished.

Can you still get the Migrator cape?

No. Mojang closed account migration on September 19, 2023, and unmigrated Mojang accounts can no longer sign in to move over. Copies bought on or after December 1, 2020 already used Microsoft accounts, so they never qualified.

Did migrators get veteran capes too?

Mojang's 2020 announcement hinted at more than one cape. The Minecraft Wiki says migrators were once meant to get veteran capes for each year played, an idea Mojang later dropped for technical reasons.
