About Ocean Ruin
What the structure is, and what it's worth the trip for
Ocean ruins are sunken stone-and-sandstone structures that, like shipwrecks, can hold a buried treasure map — your route to a heart of the sea. Enter your seed and this finder returns the nearest ruins, warm or cold variant depending on the ocean.
Roughly a third generate as large ruins with a cluster of smaller ones nearby, so one hit often opens up a whole search area.
How it works
The placement rules this finder reproduces
Ocean ruins place on a region grid seeded by your world seed, in ocean chunks. The finder runs the same placement math and returns the nearest ruins to your search origin; sweep the surrounding seabed for the cluster of smaller ruins.
Tips
Getting a useful result on the first search
- Not every ruin has a chest — search the cluster to find one with a buried treasure map.
- Drowned here don't despawn and some carry tridents, so bring armor.
- Respiration and Depth Strider make searching the seabed far faster.
- Shipwrecks offer the same map loot — check the shipwreck finder too.
Frequently asked questions
What people ask about finding this structure
How do I find ocean ruins? +
Enter your world seed and this finder returns the nearest ocean ruins. Cold ruins generate in normal, cold, and frozen oceans; warm ruins generate in warm and lukewarm oceans.
What loot is in ocean ruins? +
Their chests can hold a buried treasure map — the same lead to a heart of the sea that shipwrecks offer — plus emeralds, wheat, and gold. Drowned mobs guard the ruins and don't despawn.
Why do ocean ruins cluster? +
About 30% generate as a large structure, and when they do there's a high chance of several smaller ruins nearby — so finding one often means finding a whole field.
