About Shipwreck

What the structure is, and what it's worth the trip for

Shipwrecks are the quickest route to a buried treasure map — and through it, a heart of the sea for a conduit. Enter your seed and this finder returns the nearest wreck, whether it's on the seabed, washed up on a beach, or frozen inside an iceberg.

Each wreck can hold up to three chests, so it's worth searching the whole hull even when the ship is broken or upside-down.

How it works

The placement rules this finder reproduces

Shipwrecks place on a region grid seeded by your world seed, favoring ocean chunks. The finder runs the same placement math and returns the nearest wreck to your search origin; because they can generate above or below sea level, check both the surface and the seabed at the reported column.

Tips

Getting a useful result on the first search

  • The treasure chest is what holds the buried treasure map — grab it first.
  • Follow the buried treasure map to an X; dig straight down at the marked column for a heart of the sea.
  • A respiration helmet and Depth Strider boots make underwater looting far easier.
  • Ocean ruins nearby also drop buried treasure maps — check the ocean ruins finder.

Frequently asked questions

What people ask about finding this structure

How do I find a shipwreck? +

Enter your world seed and this finder returns the nearest shipwreck. They generate commonly in oceans and occasionally on beaches or inside icebergs, so one is usually close to any coastal spawn.

What loot is in a shipwreck? +

Up to three chests: a treasure chest (emeralds, iron, gold, buried treasure maps), a supply chest (food, suspicious stew), and a map chest. The buried treasure map leads to a buried treasure chest with a heart of the sea.

Which way do shipwrecks face? +

Any orientation — upright, on its side, or upside-down — and they're usually damaged, so some chests may be missing or exposed. The finder gives you the location; dig around the hull to find the chests.
